Hi. I'm Casey. If you are reading this right now, you probably know me already (because you likely gave birth to me-- Hey Mom). I never thought I would have a blog. Why, you may ask, would I feel that way? I have several reasons:
1. No one (except for my friend Laura and my mother) would read it.
2. I am technologically challenged.
3. It's a lot of pressure to be interesting and witty and clever on a regular basis.
4. I have a very dry sense of humor and I don't think it will read well through the internet...
5. I am (usually) not conceited enough to think that anyone really cares about my on-goings.
However, I am working through these and my other reasons for not having a blog in the attempt to do some good. Here is the brief skinny on me:
I am 25 years old.
I am from Birmingham, Alabama.
I have an amazing family and great friends (and the best dog ever).
I am working on my doctorate in Public Health (Health Behaviors).
I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 16.
Now, I wouldn't normally jump right to the cancer admission; I mean, we just met in theory. However, that is rather the purpose of my having a blog. My goal is to share the good, the bad, and whatever is left to show others out there (especially those who have been through or are going through a similar struggle) what it's like on the other end of the tunnel. The "survival" end, if it can be called that. Point being, I have made it so far, so can you.
So that is the shortly stated (although as you might learn if you decide to stick around that things are never "shortly stated" when I'm at the wheel) version of why I'm here and what I'm doing. Now, if you'll excuse me I am going to spend an hour or so analyzing every word I have written to determine the overall "lame content" of this first posting. Then there will be the subsequent "dull analysis" and so on. Thanks for reading, I hope you stay tuned.
Casey
Welcome to my life...
Hello, kind reader, and thanks for coming! You are probably reading this because you fall into one of the following categories:
1. My family
2. My near and dear friends
3. You accidentally typed in the wrong URL
But if, by chance you are not a part of one of those categories I hope you will still take a minute to read some of my posts. What I'm all about is cancer, particularly adolescent cancer. I had it, I owned it, I beat it, and here I am today. I am now getting my doctorate doing research with adolescent cancer patients and survivors. I came out okay on the other end of something awful, and now I want to make a difference by helping others. The way I see it, it's all about support--helping each other, seeing that someone has been there and made it. When I was 16 I felt completely alone, and I don't want others to feel that way. My idea is that maybe we can help each other by talking and sharing our stories. So here are some of mine...
Casey
